The Kashmir issue can be solved through dialogues, says Dr. V.P. Vaidik, Chairman of the Council for Indian Foreign Policy.
“Independence from both India and Pakistan can be catastrophic owing to a lack of financial resources and land-locked area of Kashmir”, he told members of the Pakistan Visionary Forum while deliberating on “Future of Indo-Pak Relations” at the TECH Society Club.
“I appeal to Pakistanis and Indians to take practical measures by withdrawing troops from Kashmir as a first step to initiate peaceful dialogues. We are in favour of freedom of Kashmiris but not their separation from us. Solution to terrorism also lies in negotiations, which is not possible until the US stops drone attacks”, Dr. Vaidik said.
He said few Indians had not accepted the partition of India and Pakistan but it did not mean that they were in favour of any kind of loss to Pakistan.
Mr. Zubair Sheikh said the confidence building measures were necessary to resolve all bilateral issues for which intellectuals of both countries could play a pivotal role.
Justice Sharif Hussain Bokhari (retired) said he had listened to only a few Indians who were in favour of resolving Kashmir issue and Dr. Vaidik was one of them. He added that movement of Pakistanis visiting India was suspiciously watched.
Prof. Dr. Mugheesuddin said the Kashmir issue would linger on as long as Indians considered it as their integral part.
On reservations expressed by former IRSA Chairman Engineer Shafqat Masood, Dr. Vaidik said he was going to have dialogues with Pakistan’s experts on water issue.
Jameel Gishkori read out his poem on the theme of peace between the two neighbouring countries.

The Kashmir issue can be resolved through dialogue among all the stakeholders, Pakistan, India and people of Indian and Pakistani occupied Kashmir. But independence from both India and Pakistan can be changed to slavery of other world powers due to the lack of financial resources and landlocked area of Kashmir.
This was stated by Council for Indian Foreign Policy Chairman Dr V.P. Vaidik at a private club during his speech to the members of the Pakistan Visionary Forum on the topic of “Future of Indo-Pak relations.”
“I appeal to Pakistanis and Indians to take practical measures by withdrawing troops from Kashmir as a first step to initiate peaceful dialogues,” he said. “We are in favour of freedom of Kashmiris but not their separation from us,” he added.
Vaidik said solution to terrorism was also in negotiations which were not possible until America stopped drone attacks. He added that only a few Indians had not accepted partition of India and Pakistan but it did not mean that they were in favour of any kind of loss to Pakistan.
Answering to the question of strategic partnership between India and the US, raised by Col Farrukh, Dr. Vaidik said that being a major regional power, India it had its own significance. Qayyum Nizami said that when Indian prisoners were released from Pakistani jails they proceeded to India with better health and fitness as compared to the mentally and physically tortured Pakistani prisoners released by India.
Former Chairman IRSA, Engr. Shafqat Masood, said that there was no example of giving rivers to countries like the three devoted to India rather access to the waters of rivers was granted to countries.
Dr Vaidik informed him that he was going to have dialogue with Pakistan’s water experts on the issue and invited him for such a meeting in Lahore.

LAHORE: Indian Foreign Policy Council Chairman Dr. VP Vaidik has appealed to the Pakistani and Indian governments to withdraw troops from Kashmir, as a first practical step towards peace.
Dr. VP Vaidik was addressing a discussion on “Future of Indo-Pak relations” organised by Pakistan Visionary Forum at TECH Society Club here on Sunday.
He said Kashmir issue could be resolved through dialogue amongst all stakeholders – Pakistanis, Indians, and people of Kashmir.
“I appeal to Pakistanis and Indians to take practical measures by withdrawing troops from Kashmir as a first step to initiate peaceful dialogues. We are in favour of freedom of Kashmiris but not their separation from us.”
Responding to a question about drone attacks and terrorism, the Council for Indian Foreign Policy chairman said that the solution to terrorism also lies in negotiations, which is not possible until “your friend America stop drone attacks.”

Vaidik said the Kashmir dispute could be resolved through dialogue between Pakistanis, Indians, and the people of Kashmir. “We are in favour of the freedom of Kashmiris but not secession from India,” he said. He said terrorism could also be stopped through negotiations but it was not possible until the US stopped drone attacks on Pakistani soil.
He said independence from India and Pakistan was not a solution because Kashmir was landlocked. Vaidik said some Indians had not liked the partition but that “did not mean they wanted to cause Pakistan harm.”
Also speaking on the occasion, Zubair Sheikh said confidence building measures were necessary to resolve issues between India and Pakistan.
Justice(r) Sharif Hussain Bokhari said Dr Vaidik was one of the few Indians he had met who favoured resolution of the Kashmir dipute.
Jameel Gishkori read his kalam, Aman Ki Aasha. Prof Mugheesud Din said no resolution was possible until India stopped claiming that Kashmir was an integral part of their country.
Qayyum Nizami said when Indian prisoners were released from Pakistani jails they left in better health than their counterparts.
