Dear Friends,
I have the pleasure of knowing Amar Shaheed Ustad Rabbani Saheb for the last 45 years. He was in the Islamic law faculty of Pohentoon-e-Kabul and I was working at the Dept. of Political Science as a ph.d. research scholar. During his last visit to India, he spent almost entire last day with me in New Delhi.
During these 45 years I have been a living witness to the Afghan history. I have had known right from King Zaher Shah and Sardar Daud to Hashim Maiwandwal, Dr. Zaher, Babrak Karmal, Hafijillah Amin, Noor M. Tarrakai, Dr. Najib, Gafoorzai and of course dear friend Hamid Karzai. But may I tell you I had a very special attraction towards Prof. Rabbani, not only because he was a very handsome person but because he truly represented the divine virtues of life. He was the humane face of Islam. Prof. Rabbani was a proud son of mother Afghanistan. He was a patriot to the core and he also imbibed Islamic virtues in his personality. He was polite, compassionate and large hearted. Ishan Sheeri-Juban-O- marde-nafasat boodand.
I have so many sweat and significant memories of Ustad Rabbani to tell you. During my last visit to Kabul, Ustad Rabbani invited me to his home and conferred on me the honor of addressing all the leaders of Jabbhe-Milli. Under his friendly influence in 1983, I observed strict Rojas and payed Namaz-e-Tarawi in my own way. Once in Peshawar he and Hikmatyar were undergoing a terrible tension and war of words. His 30 commanders were killed. I urged him to form a political front consisting of all the Mujahideen factions. He agreed to talk to Hikmatyar. I kept on talking to Mujadadi Saheb, Pir Gailani, Sayyaf Saheb and Yunis Khalis. He agreed to the ultimate logic of political warfare rather than the military warfare. Before we could negotiate peace between the Government in Kabul and the Mujahideen, the Soviets left Afghanistan.
Even now I feel those who are against the present system in Kabul, I urge them to form a political front and challenge Mr. Karzai, Mr. Abdullah, Dr. Seerat, Mr. Jalali and all others who want to have a sway over Afghanistan. Every body would be happy to face them. Everybody would emerge as a victor In this peaceful and democratic battle. The international society too will support you even if you want to impose your ideology in a democratic manner. It will be a great tribute to Amar Shaheed Rabbani.
Your neighbors may be playing some role in disturbing the peace of Afghanistan but I say you must first set your own house in order. You have a constitution, you have a Parliament, you have a government and you have a judiciary. It means you have a roof over your head. But pillars of this roof are missing. There are no viable political parties in Afghanistan to uphold this heavy structure.
My humble suggestions for bringing peace to Afghanistan are four. First build an army of half a million Afghan jawans. India may actively help you raise this indigenous army. If Pakistan joins this effort if would be the beginning of a new era of cooperation is South Asia. Let every single foreign army man must quit Afghanistan. Second, open up your mineral wealth for economic progress and third, please build a sound party system in Afghanistan. Lastly, abandon the idea of destroying the Taliban by weapons and Taliban should also abandon the idea of destroying this government by weapons. If both of you are out to destroy each other, I tell you this beautiful Afghanistan, the land of We Aryans, will be totally destroyed. If any thing undesirable happens to Afghanistan, India can not rest in peace. So as an Indian and a lover of Afghanistan, I urge you to follow the path of Gandhi. If Gandhi could defeat the might of the British Empire with non-violence, why can’t you stabilize Afghanistan and make it a pivot of rejuvenation of entire South Asia. It would be a real tribute to the great Aryan Visionary Amar Shaheed Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani.
